As the Tax and Compliance Expert at One Network, your role will involve handling all aspects of tax management, regulatory compliance, and risk mitigation for our operations in Pakistan. You will play a critical role in managing our corporate tax filings, ensuring compliance with Pakistan’s tax laws (including FBR and SECP regulations), and working to optimize financial outcomes for the organization while mitigating risks. The role requires someone with a deep understanding of Pakistan’s tax laws, particularly those governing IT and export-oriented businesses.


Key Responsibilities

  • Tax Management
    • Prepare, review, and file accurate tax returns (income tax, withholding tax, sales tax) as per Pakistan’s tax laws.
    • Manage exemptions and rebates under relevant schemes (e.g., FBR IT export incentives).
    • Handle withholding tax reconciliation and ensure timely deposits to the FBR.
    • Ensure compliance with provincial tax requirements (e.g., PRA, SRB, KPKRA).
  • Compliance Oversight
    • Ensure compliance with SECP corporate filing regulations and disclosures.
    • Monitor compliance with SBP guidelines on foreign remittances and export proceeds.
    • Stay updated on applicable tax incentives, including those for the IT sector under the Special Technology Zones Authority (STZA) or similar frameworks.
  • Risk Management
    • Identify and mitigate potential tax risks by tracking updates to tax laws and regulations.
    • Conduct internal audits to ensure compliance with FBR rules and manage external audits.
    • Represent the organization at FBR hearings and with other tax authorities.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration
    • Work with internal teams and external consultants to address tax compliance for IT export contracts.
    • Liaise with tax advisors, auditors, and legal counsel on tax planning and compliance issues.
    • Collaborate with regulatory authorities to ensure all necessary tax credits and exemptions are received.
  • Documentation and Reporting
    • Maintain accurate records of tax filings, payment receipts, and other compliance reports.
    • Provide regular updates to senior management on tax liabilities, compliance status, and any changes in legislation.

Qualifications

  • Educational Background:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
    • Professional certifications (e.g., ACCA, ICMA) are preferred.
  • Experience:
    • 3-4 years of experience in taxation and compliance, ideally in the IT or export-oriented sectors in Pakistan.
    • Experience working with SECP, SBP, and FBR regulations, particularly regarding IT exports.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Strong understanding of Pakistan’s tax laws, including the Income Tax Ordinance, Sales Tax Act, and relevant provincial tax statutes.
    • Proficiency with tax software (e.g., IRIS, provincial e-filing systems).
    • Analytical mindset for handling complex tax situations.
  • Preferred:
    • Experience managing tax compliance for companies under STZA or STPI frameworks.
    • Knowledge of Double Taxation Agreements (DTAs) and tax treaty benefits.
    • Proven ability to navigate tax audits and represent an organization in hearings.
