We are looking for an experienced and results-driven Head of Legal to join our team, based remotely in Pakistan. This full-time, remote role offers an exciting opportunity to lead the legal team and provide strategic legal support to the business as it continues to evolve.
As the Head of Legal, you will work closely with the Chief Legal Officer (CLO), manage a team of legal professionals, and ensure that legal strategies align with our business objectives. The ideal candidate will bring a wealth of experience in commercial contracts, team management, risk management, and corporate governance.
Responsibilities
Legal Strategy & Team Leadership:
- Develop and implement legal strategies in collaboration with the CLO to support the company’s business objectives.
- Participate in Senior Leadership Team meetings and work with product development and operations teams to drive business roadmap projects forward.
- Manage and develop a high-performing, collaborative legal team.
- Oversee recruitment and set priorities, SLAs, and KPIs for the team.
- Set and manage the legal budget.
Contract Drafting & Risk Management:
- Review, draft, and negotiate a variety of commercial contracts and legal documents to support ongoing business operations.
- Support with the structuring, legal due diligence, and capital-raising transactions.
- Identify legal risks, develop risk mitigation strategies, and ensure compliance with relevant legal and regulatory requirements.
- Stay up to date on legal and regulatory changes impacting the business.
Dispute Resolution & Regulatory Compliance:
- Develop strategies to minimize litigation risks and costs.
- Manage disputes, litigation, adverse media, and coordinate with external legal advisors when needed.
- Assist in meeting the company’s regulatory obligations and ensure adherence to corporate governance standards.
External Advisors & Corporate Governance:
- Oversee external legal counsel and professional advisors to ensure cost-effective and comprehensive service delivery.
- Ensure compliance with company law requirements, including board minutes and filings.
Qualifications
Essential Skills & Experience:
- Extensive commercial contracts experience in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial contracts.
- 7+ years of post-qualification experience in legal practice, with a strong background in managing a legal team (in-house or private practice).
- Experience in fintech, start-ups, or growing companies is highly desirable.
- Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively interact with internal and external stakeholders.
- Proven ability to think creatively and critically across various legal practice areas and in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Highly Desirable:
- Experience in Islamic finance and financial services.
- Corporate governance experience, including company secretarial roles.
- Familiarity with structuring financial products and tax and regulatory-driven structures.
- Experience using technology in legal practice, including case management systems.
